The Ibis is a 26 inch hardtail. I have decided to ride my Santa Cruz Superlight. However, I am having troubles with the Progressive Fifth Element rear shock – it keeps popping off the rubber bushing in the middle of rides. I may be replacing the shock before this weekend’s big race.

David, would you think that a 29′er would be soft enough for the race, when a 26 inch isn’t?

If you are talking about a 26 inch hard tail I would stick with the full suspension.

searching the american mountain classic to work on our lodging, i got directed to your site somehow. strange. but interesting. I read a bit about your dream. DO IT! I am and if I can, anyone can. I started much later than you. At 36, I am living the dream. And ‘professional’ is a category. So few can make a living doing this. But like you, I didn’t want to have any regrets. And luckily I have an awesome husband that supports my dream. It has been an amazing journey. and it has only just begun.
Hope to see you in Utah. There are quite a few Oregonians doing it. I am planning on driving, but staying for the last NMBS race the following weekend. But you could hitch a ride down or just stay for the race.

Andy,

I love you with my whole heart and I am sorry for whatever pain I have caused you. Whatever it is that has made us lose track of our love and our marriage can be fixed. Even if it is major changes that need to happen in our life.

I know cycling is the most important thing to you in the world — and if you need and want to pursue this as a career, with all of its financial “un-wisdom”, I will be there to support you emotionally, physically and financially. Please don’t throw us away because life isn’t perfect — at least take some time with me to make sure before being hasty.

Yeah, I was quite upset with flatting out. One guy even had the disrespect to snidely remark “Nice equipment, dude!” Like I don’t feel bummed enough saving my legs for the sprint, then flatting before I even get there…

We’ll see how Willamette goes this weekend. I’ll be sure to get in some good racing there.
